A sessions court here convicted five Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers in a case related to the attempted murder of a Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) leader after trespassing on his house premises and attacking him with deadly weapons.
The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court Judge, J. Vimal, sentenced the accused to a total of 14 years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2.55 lakh each on them. The court ordered that the fine, if realised, be paid to the injured person.
According to the prosecution, the accused attempted to murder K. Ramesan, 53, BMS area secretary and a resident of Arangatreparamba in Eranholi, with deadly weapons in the courtyard of his house. The incident occurred on the evening of May 9, 2016.
The convicted are P.K. Shibin, 35, K.P. Shimith, 34, K.T. Jimesh, 43, P. Vineesh, 33, and K. Rimesh, 34, all natives of Eranholi.
