TDP using App for voter profiling, alleges YSRCP
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-06-15 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Monday urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vivek Yadav to order an immediate inquiry into the alleged collection of sensitive voter information through the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) “MY TDP” mobile application, claiming that the practice poses a serious threat to voter privacy and the secrecy of the ballot.

In a representation submitted to the CEO at Velagapudi, YSRCP leaders Lella Appi Reddy, Ruhulla and others alleged that the application was being used to collect voter-related information, including caste details and voting preferences. Such data collection, they contended, undermines the principles of free and fair elections and infringes upon the constitutional guarantee of secret voting.

The party also alleged that TDP functionaries were using electoral rolls containing voters’ photographs and personal details for political profiling. It sought a detailed probe into the source of the information being collected and whether the exercise violates election laws, voter privacy norms and guidelines issued by the Election Commission.

The YSRCP urged the authorities to halt such activities if any violations are established and take appropriate action against those responsible. It also called upon the Election Commission to issue clear directions prohibiting political parties from collecting sensitive voter information that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

The party further suggested measures to enhance transparency in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, including daily public updates on the progress of the exercise and stricter verification of identity cards issued to Booth Level Agents. Copies of the representation and supporting documents were also sent to the Election Commission of India and the State Election Commission.
