The Dindigul police on Thursday arrested one Vijay Shankar, 56, a native of Melur in Madurai district in connection with a burglary case reported in the district.
According to the police, Swarnam, 65, a resident of Kudaganaru Illam on the Dindigul-Natham road, travelled to the United States to visit her children who were living there. On May 20, her domestic help found the house’s locks broken open and jewellery, cash and other items missing from the bureau.
Following a complaint, a special police squad was formed headed by the Dindigul Town DSP Karthik. During the investigation, the police tracked a suspicious phone number.
On analyzing the movement patterns associated with the number, it was revealed that the suspect had crossed the Kappalur Toll Plaza. CCTV footage was examined. Subsequently, the police team tracked the vehicle and arrested Vijay Shankar near Vandiyur in Madurai. The police team recovered 125 grams of gold, silver articles, ₹2.30 lakh in cash, and seized the car used by the suspect.
It is said there are several cases pending against Vijay Shankar and reported in other districts. The Dindigul Special Police Squad are on the look out for two of his accomplices who are absconding.
