The eastern region of the district sided completely with the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Assembly elections, with the front retaining Muvattupuzha and Perumbavoor constituencies and wresting the Kothamangalam seat from the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
In Muvattupuzha, the Congress’ Mathew Kuzhalnadan recorded an emphatic victory by a margin of 42,829 votes against N. Arun of the Left Democratic Front (LDF). The National Democratic Alliance’s Sunny Kadoothazhe could pocket only 9,840 votes.
