The Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry Owners Federation (TNSLOF) on Saturday (June 27, 2026) demanded an IAS officer-led committee inquiry into the alleged party fund collected from lorry owners by the previous DMK-led government.

Speaking to reporters, the TNSLOF president, Sella. Rajamani, said that during the DMK regime, gravel was taken illegally above the permitted level in the districts of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Tirupur, Salem, Sivaganga, Erode, Karur, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Coimbatore, Namakkal, Tiruchi, and Madurai, resulting in a revenue loss of ₹1,000 crore. to the government.

For transporting gravel and savudu sand from quarries, ₹700 was collected as a party fund and royalty per unit, from the lorry owners. To take action against the illegal collection of money, on behalf of TNSLOF, petitions were sent in July and September, 2025 and March 2026 to the Revenue and Geology and Mines Departments, but no action was taken. Demanding action against the officials, a petition was sent again to the Governor, Chief Minister, and the director of the Geology and Mines Department on March 28.

Responding to the petition, on June 11, 2026, the director of the Department instructed the Regional Mines Department directors’ to inquire into the allegations. Mr. Rajamani alleged that these officials were responsible for the loss, and added the justice would not be served if they inquired.

Demanding a committee led by an IAS officer to inquire into the allegations, Mr. Rajamani said that the committee should conduct field inspections at the gravel and savudu sand quarries, identify the irregularities, and take action against the people involved in the scam and also against the officials accountable. “A case must be registered against former ministers Duraimurugan and S. Regupathy, who held the Mines Department in the DMK government,” Mr. Rajamani added.
