Officials of the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided an illegally operated medical shop in Choppadandi village of Karimnagar district on June 10 and seized medicines worth ₹5.51 lakh that were being stocked and sold without a valid drug licence.

According to the DCA, the raid was conducted following credible information regarding the illegal sale of medicines. Officials inspected a premises located in Choppadandi village under Choppadandi mandal and found that it was being operated by Mallarapu Akhil without obtaining the mandatory drug licence.

During the inspection, officers detected the unauthorised stocking of a large quantity of medicines intended for sale. A total of 28 varieties of medicines, including in-vitro diagnostic test kits, antibiotics, intravenous fluids, analgesics and other drugs, were found on the premises. The seized stock was valued at ₹5.51 lakh.

Samples of the seized medicines have been collected for analysis and further investigation is underway. The department said action would be taken against all those found involved in the violation, the DCA said.

They also warned wholesalers and dealers that supplying medicines to unlicensed establishments is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. It stated that distributors are required to verify that recipient entities possess valid drug licences before supplying medicines.
