The under-₹30,000 smartphone category targets value-conscious, performance-seeking consumers who want relatively premium features without paying too much. Hence, a smartphone brand is expected to deliver an all-rounder under budget. OnePlus tried to do exactly that with its OnePlus Nord CE series.

This year, the smartphone brand has launched the OnePlus Nord CE 6, starting at ₹29,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant and going up to ₹32,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant. Interestingly, the phone is priced almost ₹5,000 higher than its predecessor.

But the bigger question is whether it delivers enough upgrades over the OnePlus Nord CE 5 and rivals like the Nothing Phone 4a, the Motorola Edge 70, and the Moto Edge 70 Fusion. Let’s find out.

Design

OnePlus seems to be carrying forward the design DNA of the OnePlus 13s with the Nord CE 6. The smartphone adopts a square camera module, something that recently started appearing on OnePlus devices. It also mirrors the rear design language seen on the higher-priced OnePlus Nord 6. The result is a phone that immediately feels more premium than what its pricing suggests.

The Pitch Black review unit does not try too hard to grab attention. The matte finish feels refined, resists fingerprints reasonably well, and adds to the premium in-hand feel. The phone feels slightly heavy at 215 grams, but considering it packs an 8,000 mAh battery, the weight distribution is surprisingly balanced.

OnePlus has also improved durability significantly this time. The Nord CE 6 comes with MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification alongside IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings. This instantly gives it an edge over rivals like the Nothing Phone 4a, which only offers IP64 protection. You also get stereo speakers, an infrared blaster, USB Type-C support, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Display

The OnePlus Nord CE 6 features a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a resolution of 2772 × 1272 pixels. It supports a 144 Hz refresh rate, which instantly makes scrolling, animations, and gaming feel smoother than many phones in this segment. The display also supports 10-bit colours, 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut, and HDR playback, resulting in vibrant visuals with excellent contrast.

Brightness is another strong point here. The panel reaches up to 3,600 nits peak brightness with 1,800 nits high brightness mode, making outdoor visibility excellent even under harsh sunlight. OnePlus has also added 3,840 Hz PWM dimming and eye-care features, which help reduce strain during night usage.

The dedicated Touch Reflex chip boosts touch response up to 3,200 Hz, making gaming interactions feel instant. Compared to the Nothing Phone 4a and Motorola Edge 70, the Nord CE 6 offers a more gaming-focused display experience with its higher refresh rate and faster touch response. Meanwhile, compared to the Nord CE 5, this feels like a meaningful upgrade in both smoothness and brightness.

OS and AI

The OnePlus Nord CE 6 runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16. The software experience remains one of the cleaner implementations in this segment. Animations feel smooth, app transitions are quick, and multi-tasking remains fluid throughout daily usage. OnePlus also claims six years of smooth performance optimisation, which adds confidence for long-term users.

AI features are now integrated deeper into the experience. OnePlus and Google have collaborated to bring AI-powered productivity and photo tools that genuinely feel useful instead of gimmicky. Features like AI-assisted image editing, smart multitasking tools, and contextual assistance improve daily usage without overwhelming the interface.

Performance

Powering the OnePlus Nord CE 6 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor paired with the Adreno 810 GPU. My review unit came with 8GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. During day-to-day usage, the phone feels responsive and smooth. Apps open quickly, multi-tasking remains stable, and OxygenOS optimisations help maintain consistency across workloads.

Gaming is clearly one of the biggest focus areas of this phone. OnePlus has included a dedicated Touch Reflex chip, along with support for up to 144FPS gaming in supported titles. Games like COD, Pokemon, BGMI ran smoothly during my testing. The large 33147mm² vapour cooling system also helps manage thermals effectively during longer gaming sessions.

However, benchmark figures tell a slightly different story. The Nord CE 6 scored 1098 in Geekbench single-core, 3111 in multi-core, 3562 in GPU tests, and 1,142,518 on AnTuTu. Compared to rivals, these numbers are lower. The Nothing Phone 4a scored 1254 single-core and 3361 multi-core, while the Motorola Edge 70 delivered 1325 single-core and crossed 1.42 million on AnTuTu. Even the Moto Edge 70 Fusion recorded higher multi-core scores.

That said, benchmark numbers do not fully reflect real-world usage. The Nord CE 6 remains smooth and reliable. Gaming feels stable, multi-tasking rarely slows down, and the phone handles everyday usage comfortably.

Camera

The OnePlus Nord CE 6 features a 50 MP primary camera paired with a 2 MP secondary sensor, while the front houses a 32 MP selfie camera with autofocus support. Compared to the Nord CE 5, OnePlus has focused more on video stability and overall consistency rather than dramatically changing the camera hardware.

Daylight shots come out detailed with natural colours and balanced exposure. OnePlus avoids excessive processing, which means photos often look close to what the eyes actually see. Dynamic range remains good, and details are retained well even under challenging lighting conditions.

Night photography also performs reliably. The phone captures scenes realistically instead of aggressively brightening them. Noise remains controlled, highlights are balanced, and the OIS support helps reduce blur in low-light conditions. The overall output feels clean and dependable.

Portrait shots are another area where the Nord CE 6 performs well. Edge detection is accurate in most situations, and the background blur looks natural without appearing overly artificial. Skin tones also remain balanced, which helps portraits appear more realistic.

The 32 MP front camera performs particularly well in natural lighting. Selfies come out sharp with good colour reproduction and decent dynamic range. Video performance is also a strong point since both the front and rear cameras support 4K recording.

Battery

Battery life is undoubtedly one of the biggest selling points of the OnePlus Nord CE 6. The phone packs a massive 8,000 mAh battery, which is a huge upgrade over the Nord CE 5 and one of the largest batteries currently available in this segment.

During my personal usage, the phone comfortably lasted for two full days even with gaming, social media, photography, and streaming. The 80W SUPERVOOC charging support also ensures the large battery refills relatively quickly.

OnePlus has additionally included bypass charging and 27W reverse wired charging, allowing the phone to function like a power bank when needed. Compared to the Nothing Phone 4a, the Motorola Edge 70, and the Moto Edge 70 Fusion, the Nord CE 6 clearly takes the lead in battery endurance.

Verdict

Coming back to the question we started with — does the OnePlus Nord CE 6 justify its higher pricing? The answer is largely yes. The phone brings meaningful upgrades over the Nord CE 5 in areas like display quality, durability, battery life, gaming optimisations, and overall design refinement.

Add to that the massive 8,000 mAh battery, premium design language, rugged durability, 144 Hz AMOLED display, and practical software experience, and the Nord CE 6 starts making a strong case for itself.

In a segment crowded with good smartphones, the OnePlus Nord CE 6 succeeds by positioning itself as a genuine all-rounder. It may not dominate every single category individually, but it combines gaming, battery life, durability, and daily usability better than most phones in its price range.
