Two separate road accidents in Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam districts claimed three lives and left six others severely injured on Saturday.
Two persons were killed and six others sustained severe injuries after the four-wheeler in which they were travelling reportedly rammed a parked lorry at Ugginapalem on National Highway-16 under Kasimkota police station limits in Anakapalli district, in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased were identified as S. Jyothi (31), a resident of Sriharipuram in Visakhapatnam, and A. Kumar Rao (45) of Munagapaka in Anakapalli district.
According to the Kasimkota police, a family of 12 members, including eight women, was returning to Munagapaka from Bhadrachalam after offering prayers at a temple. The accident reportedly occurred after the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to crash into a parked lorry.
Jyothi and Kumar Rao sustained grievous injuries and died while undergoing treatment. The injured persons were shifted to NTR Hospital in Anakapalli for treatment.
The Kasimkota police registered a case and are investigating.
In another incident, a 26-year-old man died after allegedly coming under the wheels of an APSRTC bus at Marikavalasa under PM Palem police station limits in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Mohan Rao from Vizianagaram district, was travelling on a two-wheeler and allegedly attempted to overtake the RTC bus. During the attempt, he reportedly came into contact with the bus, lost balance and fell onto the road before being run over by the vehicle.
The APSRTC bus was travelling from Srikakulam to Visakhapatnam at the time of the accident.
The PM Palem police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem.
