The Yelahanka police have arrested a group of four people, including two minors, for allegedly trapping a 27-year-old civil engineer through a dating app, assaulting him with a knife, and robbing him in north Bengaluru.
The incident occurred in Venkatala on Friday evening. Based on the victim’s complaint, the police registered a case under Section 311 (robbery or dacoity accompanied by an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
According to the police, the victim had connected with one of the accused on a dating app and was invited to meet near Palanahalli Gate around 7 p.m. When he reached the spot, four men approached him and led him to a secluded area near Jayamuni Layout.
The accused allegedly threatened to expose his private life and demanded money. When he resisted, one of them attacked him with a knife, stabbing him multiple times on the head, hand, and abdomen, while the others restrained him.
The assailants then forced him to unlock his mobile phone and transferred ₹16,000 via UPI before fleeing the scene.
The injured victim later alerted a friend, who shifted him to a private hospital on Ballari Road for treatment.
The police said they swiftly tracked down and arrested the accused. Two of them have been identified as Rajesh and Darshan, both aged 19, while the remaining two are minors. All are reportedly pre-university dropouts and unemployed. Further investigation is under way.
