BJP State president Nainar Nagendran on Saturday alleged that the DMK’s failure to uphold its promise of closing liquor shops had directly led to thousands of young lives being ruined across the State.

Mr. Nagendran campaigned in support of the party’s Tiruppattur candidate, K.C. Thirumaran. After this, he campaigned in Muppaiyur for Karaikudi AMMK candidate Therbogai Pandi, in Kalaiarkovil for Sivaganga AIADMK candidate P.R. Senthilnathan, and in Manamadurai for BJP candidate Pon. Balaganapathy.

Speaking in Singampunari and Kalayarkovil, Mr. Nagenthran alleged: “The DMK have only increased the sale of ganja. From a two-year-old child to a 70-year-old elderly women, everyone is falling victim to sexual assault.”

He claimed: “An anti-DMK mindset prevails among the people. They are spending ₹50,000 crore for the election. They are giving ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per vote. Senthilbalaji is giving gold coins. Despite all this, our alliance will emerge victorious.”

The DMK’s claim of providing ₹8,000 coupons was a deceptive act, aimed at luring women voters, he said. “If they really cared about women, why would they have increased property tax by 200 times,” he questioned. Similarly, after claiming they would collect electricity bills monthly, they have raised the charges manifold. Numerous families are struggling, unable to pay them, he noted.

“In Tamil Nadu, 10,000 micro and small industries have been shut down. Lakhs of people are living out their life with no clue about their future,” he said, adding: “This is the reality of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.”

Though there were several corruption cases against the Ministers, and there was strong dislike over Mr. Stalin making his son the Deputy Chief Minister, in this election, Mr. Nagenthran said: “Stalin, unwilling to care about any of the accusations is intending to crown his son.”

Noting that the Sivaganga district was like his like his own home district, he appealed to the people to vote for the BJP. Governance must be established under the single umbrella of the National Democratic Alliance, he said.

“Tiruppattur will be transformed into a bright constituency. Steps will be taken to operate a train between Karaikudi and Dindigul. A ganja-free Tamil Nadu will be created. The halted Cauvery-Gundar project will be implemented again,” he said.

Mr. Nagenthran also accused TVK president C. Joseph Vijay of starting the party only to bring the DMK to power. “Everyone cannot become an MGR or a Jayalalithaa; politics requires a distinct ideology, organisation, and a natural instinct. First, he must be a good family man,” he commented.

Politics should be for the welfare of the people, not just for power, he added. Further, he said his party did not intend to divide any religion, and religious harmony was their stance.
