The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has issued show-cause notices to its executive committee members Joy Mathew, Lakshmipriya, and Tini Tom for allegedly tarnishing its image through public statements.

The decision to seek explanations from the members was taken at the association’s executive committee meeting on June 3, 2026. The association had sent a similar notice to member Ansiba Hassan, former joint secretary, on June 10, 2026.

The notice stated that the executive committee had taken note of the statements and interviews made by the members in the media relating to the association and their disputes with certain members. “The executive committee feels that your said action has tarnished the image of the association among the public. The committee felt that the above subject matter could have been amicably resolved within the association by resorting to various remedies available to you as a member of the association,” it said.

The notice further observed that the actions of the members had adversely affected the smooth functioning of the association and also resulted in loss of reputation and goodwill among the public. As a member, this was deemed a violation of the provisions under Article V and Article V(A) of the association’s by-law and amounted to misconduct.

Reply sought

The members have been told to submit their replies within a week.

Mr. Mathew said on Friday that he had submitted his reply to the notice. He said the details of his response could be disclosed in the public as it was “an internal matter” related to the association.

Ms. Lakshmipriya, and Mr. Tom were not available for comment.

In her reply, Ms. Hassan sought greater clarity on the show-cause notice served on her in order to submit an accurate reply. She asked that the specific violations of the by-law alleged against her be clearly spelt out. She pointed out that the incidents involving Ms. Lakshmipriya, and Mr. Tom were “purely personal matters” and bore no connection to the association, particularly since the association had not taken any action despite being aware of complaints against both of them.

In the matter concerning Lakshmipriya, the association president Shweta Menon publicly declared that it was not an issue connected with the association. “Therefore, as an aggrieved person, I retain the full right to pursue appropriate legal remedies regarding activities that are criminal in nature. The matter involving Mr. Tom is of even graver concern and is reportedly under the consideration of the association’s executive committee,” she said.
