Scores of relatives and villagers from Palkarai staged a road roko for the second day on Thursday demanding action against the doctors of Ramanathapuram Government Medical College hospital for giving wrong treatment leading to the death of a 35-year-old woman M. Tamilselvi.

The woman, who was admitted to the hospital for nasal polyps (additional growth inside nose), underwent surgery on May 21. However, during the surgery the health condition of the woman suddenly deteriorated and she was rushed to the intenstive care unit in a critical state.

Since then, the woman has been under treatment. However, she died on Tuesday night.

The relatives refused to accept the body and complained that only negligence on part of the doctors had led to the death of the woman.

They staged a demonstration on the hospital premises on Wednesday seeking action against those responsible for the death and also sought compensation.

Ramanathapuram Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran held talks with the protesters on Wednesday. However, the relatives could not be pacified.

On Thursday, the relative again resorted to road roko in front of the hospital. Though they gave up the protest after the police pacified them, the agitators stood ground on their demand for action against the doctors.

The relatives also sought a Goverment job for Tamilselvi’s husband.

The Collector assured the protesters that their demand would be conveyed to the State Government. However, they said that they would not accept the body till their demands were met.
