Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for ReNew Energy Global PLC’s 6.5 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli district on Thursday. The plant is being set up with an investment of around ₹4,200 crore.
The MoU for this plant was signed during the CII summit held in Visakhapatnam in November 2025. As per official sources in ReNew, the plant is expected to be commissioned within 24 months and create direct and indirect employment for at least 2,100 people.
Additionally, the company will set up a 100 MW hybrid RE captive power plant with an investment of ₹1,200 crore to power this manufacturing unit, taking the total investment to around ₹5,400 crore. The plant will be set up on 135 acres of land allocated to the company at the government approved price.
As per sources in the government, this is the first plant in Andhra Pradesh and in India to manufacture solar ingot wafer. It would reduce dependency on imports.
The ReNew had signed MoUs assuring an investment of around ₹82,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh during the last CII summit and this venture is part of that commitment.
Hybrid renewable energy project
ReNew is also setting up one of India’s largest hybrid renewable energy projects in Anantapur district with an investment of ₹22,000 crore. This project envisages a generation capacity of around 2.8 GW, including 1.8 GWp solar and 1 GW wind, and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 2 GWh, making it one of the largest renewable energy complexes at a single location in India.
The Anakapalli plant will enable backward integration of ReNew’s solar PV module and cell manufacturing by producing ingots and wafers, which are critical upstream components in the solar supply chain.
As per company sources, ReNew has been present in Andhra Pradesh since 2015, when it commissioned its first 24 MW wind project at Kalyandurg. Since then, the company has expanded across wind, solar, and hybrid projects in the State. ReNew currently operates 717 MW of wind and 60 MW of solar capacity in Andhra Pradesh.
