Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vivek Yadav on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) called upon all political parties to cooperate in preparing clean and accurate electoral rolls, describing voter lists as the cornerstone of democracy. Chairing a meeting with representatives of political parties at the State Secretariat, he reviewed the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 programme in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

Mr. Yadav said rapid urbanisation, migration for education and employment, and demographic changes over the past two decades had led to issues such as deceased persons remaining on voter lists, duplicate registrations, and names of migrated persons not being removed. He said concerns raised by political parties and public representatives over the quality of electoral rolls had prompted the comprehensive revision exercise to strengthen democratic credibility.

The CEO said the SIR-2026 programme in Andhra Pradesh would be conducted with July 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Preparatory activities, training, and printing of enumeration forms would take place from June 5 to June 14, while Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would conduct door-to-door distribution and collection of forms between June 15 to July 14.

The draft electoral roll will be published on July 21, followed by claims and objections until August 20. After hearings and disposal of objections, the final voter list will be released on September 22, 2026.

Mr. Yadav said Aadhaar serves only as proof of identity and not legal proof of citizenship or residence. He assured that no voter’s name would be deleted without due inquiry and a reasoned order. He appealed to citizens and political parties to extend full cooperation for the successful implementation of the revision exercise.
