1. LPG shortage crisis: CM Stalin writes to PM Modi; Coimbatore hotels cut service timings, menus

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin chaired a meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai to assess the possible impact of the ongoing US - Iran conflict on the State. He has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking necessary alternative arrangements in view of the LPG cylinder shortage.

Following a communication from oil marketing companies to hotels in Coimbatore that the supply of LPG cylinders will be affected because of the ongoing US - Iran conflict, hotels in the district have cut down service timings and menus. Similarly, restaurants and commercial mass kitchens in Tiruchi are bracing for a shortage in LPG gas cylinders.

2. Karur stampede case: CBI summons Vijay again for questioning on March 15

Karur MLA and former Minister V. Senthilbalaji, in a social media post, said he would appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 17 in connection with investigation into the Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives in September last year.

Meanwhile, a day after actor and TVK chief Vijay sought a 15-day extension for appearance, CBI has summoned him again to appear before the agency in New Delhi on March 15.

3. O. Panneerselvam seeks HC’s permission to withdraw election petition against Ramanathapuram MP

Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, who recently joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has filed an application before the Madras High Court seeking leave to withdraw an election petition filed by him in 2024 challenging the victory of Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha member K. Navas Kani of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), an ally of the DMK.

Justice CV. Karthikeyan directed the applicant to include the Election Commission of India (ECI) as one of the respondents to the plea. 

4. T.N. Assembly election: Vijay begins interviewing TVK ticket aspirants

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay commenced the process of interviewing his party’s ticket aspirants for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election.

Mr. Vijay held one-on-one interviews with ticket aspirants from various districts at the party headquarters at Panaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai. A total of 55 functionaries who expressed their wish to contest the Assembly election were interviewed by Mr. Vijay on the first day, party sources said.
