Recognising the need for the next generation of Kattaikkuttu practitioners, the Kattaikkuttu Sangam in Kancheepuram district announced its Diploma course for 2026 for aspiring artistes and students. The programme will be taught by veteran artiste Perungattur P. Rajagopal and his team of teachers and musicians.
According to a press release, in this diploma course, students will familiarise themselves with the framework that underlies every Kattaikkuttu performance, playscript through ensemble singing while discovering different interpretations of the Mahabharata. The students will also learn to perform structured routines and so on. At the end of three months of training, students will get the opportunity to perform this role in a production before a live audience.
A shorter three-and-a-half-month segment, scheduled from October 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027, costs ₹35,000. The 10-month diploma course is offered at a fee of ₹80,000 covering tuition, shared accommodation, and food. There are 15 sponsored seats (partial or in full) for persons who face financial constraints, on the condition that they commit to the full 10-months training programme and contribute to the organisation.
