Demand for a dedicated special monitoring mechanism in the Census 2027 has gained traction after a complaint highlighted a decline in the Scheduled Caste (SC) population in the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency between 2001 and 2011.
The demand for tighter oversight stems from a representation submitted to Director of Census Operations (DCO), Telangana, Bharati Holikeri, on April 27 by Sanki Ravinder Babu, General Secretary of Cantonment Vikas Manch, who pointed to inconsistencies in past census data. According to the complaint, while the total population in the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency increased from 2,06,102 in 2001 to 2,17,910 in 2011, reflecting a growth of 5.72%, the SC population declined from 38,205 to 28,503, a drop of 25.39%.
