To celebrate the spirit of Universal Brotherhood Day, The Grand Lodge of India (GLI) that governs Freemasonry in India, awarded grants to non-governmental organisations and individuals in need. The financial assistance was primarily intended for individuals seeking educational support.
“Charity remains one of the fundamental pillars of Freemasonry. Masonic charitable activities have included healthcare support, construction of community facilities, housing projects for disaster-affected families, educational assistance and so on,” says Gutha Krishnan Selvarajan, GLI’s 19th grandmaster. “Today, we have given assistance worth ₹75 lakh and it is going to benefit many groups of people in dire need,” he said, adding that the organisation continues to promote principles of service, leadership, moral values, and fraternity which have guided its members for three centuries.
Chief Guest Swami Shanta Chittananda Maharaj of Sri Ramakrishna Math and Guest of Honour, orator Bharathi Bhaskar, also particpated. The event saw the participation of more than 500 members. It ended with members renewing their pledge to uphold the ideals of brotherhood and service which is central to Freemasonry’s legacy.
