Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board Chairman B.R. Naidu inaugurated a high-end diagnostic system and state-of-the-art medical equipment worth ₹55 crore at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati on Thursday (May 7, 2026), as part of the ₹100 crore modernisation works.

The equipment such as PET CT Scanner, Gamma camera, and High energy advanced linear accelerator were funded through the TTD’s Balaji Arogya Varaprasadini scheme.

Mr. Naidu said the PET CT scanner worth ₹18 crore would help diagnose cancer, brain and cardiac related issues with precision. The ₹5 crore Gamma camera would help picture cancer, infection in the internal organs, besides the functioning of heart, brain, thyroid, bones and kidneys. Similarly, the ₹29 crore linear accelerator would help tackle cancer tumours with increased accuracy.

He recalled Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s resolve to make SVIMS the central hub of medical excellence for the entire Rayalaseema region.

SVIMS Director Dr. R.V. Kumar recalled that the hospital, the brainchild of the late N.T. Rama Rao, has witnessed enormous development with a whopping ₹450 crore investment by the TTD over the last thirty years since its inception.

While the full-fledged cancer block would be thrown open in the next two months, high-end robotic surgery, simulators and virtual dissection to let the medical students learn the advanced way would be in place soon, Dr. Kumar added.

He also pointed out that the SVIMS campus was witnessing infrastructural boost with a whopping investment support of ₹600 crore, attributed it to the TTD’s trust board led by Mr. B.R. Naidu.

TTD trust board members Sadasiva Rao, Panabaka Lakshmi, Janaki Devi, G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, TUDA chairman C. Divakar Reddy, MLA Arani Srinivasulu, former Deputy Mayor R.C. Munikrishna were also present.
