Star Air will resume flight services between Kalaburagi and Bengaluru from June 10, Regional Sales Manager (South) of the airline Sohail Ahmed announced during a meeting with office-bearers of the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) in Kalaburagi on Wednesday.
Mr. Ahmed informed the chamber members that ticket bookings for the services have already opened.
Speaking to presspersons, KKCCI president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa expressed happiness over the restoration of air connectivity between Kalaburagi and Bengaluru.
He said that the chamber has been continuously pursuing the matter with Union Civil Aviation Ministers, Central Ministers and State government authorities after the suspension of flight services from Kalaburagi Airport.
Mr. Pappa thanked the State government and Kalaburagi district in-charge Minister Priyank Kharge for extending Viability Gap Funding support for the resumption of flight operations.
He also thanked Star Air and Mr. Ahmed for their efforts in restarting the services.
“The chamber has consistently requested for both morning and evening flight services for the convenience of passengers, businesspersons, students and the general public of the region. We hope the services will continue successfully with government support,” he said.
KKCCI also urged the Centre to include Kalaburagi Airport under the Modified UDAN 2.0 Scheme and introduce flight services to Delhi, Tirupati and other important cities.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ahmed said that discussions will soon be held with higher authorities regarding the introduction of morning flight services between Kalaburagi and Bengaluru.
According to the proposed schedule, the flight will leave Bengaluru at 6 p.m. and arrive in Kalaburagi at 7.10 p.m. The return flight will leave Kalaburagi at 7.40 p.m. and reach Bengaluru at 8.50 p.m.
KKCCI honorary joint secretary Girish Ankal, honorary treasurer C.A. Uttam Bajaj and managing committee members Anand Holakundi and Jagadish Patil were present.
