A 35-year-old woman with speech and hearing impairment was allegedly abducted in a car and sexually assaulted by two men at Paachikottai in the district on Sunday evening.  The Alangudi All Women Police, who registered a case, arrested one of the accused identified as S. Marimuthu, 41, and are on the lookout for another accused, Sekar, aged about 50. 

The victim had been working in a private rice mill near Alangudi. After completing work, the woman came to a nearby bus stop to board a bus on Sunday evening.  According to the police, Sekar and Marimuthu abducted the woman in a car and took her to a cashewnut grove.

The two men allegedly assaulted the woman sexually and abandoned her at Manakollai after she raised an alarm. Locals found the woman crying at the spot. The woman was shifted to Government Hospital, Alangudi, and subsequently admitted in the Government Ranees Hospital in Pudukottai.  Acting on a complaint from the victim’s mother, the Alangudi Police are investigating.
