A 34-year-old woman was found dead after she was allegedly attacked by her husband with a dumbbell at their residence in Shivashankar Colony, Fatehnagar, on Tuesday (May 5).
The accused, Chandra Banu Samal, 39, was booked by Sanathnagar police in connection with the death of his wife, Sasmita Samal, 34. The couple, along with their children Chandan, 12, and Chandini, 9, had been residing in the locality for the past year. They are natives of Jajpur district in Odisha.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 8 p.m. when Chandra Banu allegedly suspected his wife of speaking to unknown persons. During an argument, he allegedly struck her on the head with a dumbbell.
Sasmita sustained severe bleeding injuries and lost consciousness. She was initially shifted to BBR Hospital and later referred to Gandhi Hospital for further treatment. She died while undergoing treatment at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6.
Sanathnagar police registered a murder case and have launched an investigation into the incident. Further inquiries are under way.
