The East Coast Hospital has performed kidney transplant on an 11-year-old boy with the support of Dr. Blue India Foundation.
The hospital in a release said the patient, Guruprasad, hailing from an economically backward family, was diagnosed with kidney failure. The doctors decided to perform the transplant after his mother chose to donate her kidney, the release said.
The surgery was performed under the guidance of nephrologist N. Murugesan, with financial support from Vinayagam of Chennai Silks and a Malaysian couple Datuk Dr Ravee and Datin Kavery through Dr. Blue India Foundation, the release said.
The hospital was in the process of expanding its transplant services under various government healthcare schemes, including CMCHIS, PMJAY, ESI and ECHS, with the aim to make advanced treatments more accessible and affordable, the release added.
