Customs officials in Ramanathapuram seized silver and gold worth ₹45 lakh worth smuggled from Sri Lanka.
The Customs Intelligence Unit received information that gold was being illegally smuggled from Sri Lanka to Ramanathapuram via the sea route.
Based on this, the officers attempted to stop and inspect a suspicious two-wheeler in the Ilangovadigal Street area of Ramanathapuram city.
At that moment, the individual abandoned the two-wheeler and fled.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, they seized 13 kg of silver bars and a 90-gram gold bar. The seized items are valued at ₹45 lakh.
The gold, silver, and the two-wheeler were seized, and an investigation is under way.
