BJP MLC and former Minister A.H. Vishwanath has raised serious objections to the government’s decision to revoke the suspension of Director-General of Police (DGP) K. Ramachandra Rao.

Mr Rao, who was serving as DGP, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, had been placed under suspension earlier this year after a set of videos emerged on social media purportedly showing him in compromising positions with women in his office.

“Is there any value for law in your government? How can the government revoke his suspension?”, Mr. Vishwanath asked before referring to the reports that pointed to forensic examination confirming that the videos had not been tampered with.

Mr. Vishwanath also recalled that Mr. Rao’s name was linked to a bus robbery case during his tenure as an Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in Mysuru and the recent case of gold smuggling involving his step daughter Ranya Rao.

Expressing disappointment over the government’s decision, Mr. Vishwanath wondered if the Home Ministry is run by G. Parameshwara or Chief Minister’s son Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

Mr. Vishwanath also suspected kickbacks in the reinstatement of Mr. Rao.

BSY’s felicitation

Mr. Vishwanath also came down heavily on former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s felicitation ceremony in Chitradurga to mark the veteran BJP leader’s 50 years in politics.

He said Mr. Yediyurappa was an accused in a serious case like Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and said the felicitation to a POCSO-accused would raise questions on respect for law.

Also, it is “highly ridiculous” that the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah was attending the felicitation ceremony of a person, who is out on bail in a sexual offence against a minor.
