A police constable from the Tappachabutra police station saved the life of a TGPDCL contract worker who suffered a severe electric shock while carrying out repair works on an electricity pole in Karwan on Thursday (May 28).

The injured worker was identified as Raju Naik, 44, an assistant lineman attached to the Karwan electricity office. According to the police, he was carrying out line repair works near the Kummarwadi Hanuman Temple when he accidentally came into contact with a live high-tension wire. He suffered a massive electric shock, fell from the pole and lost consciousness.

Police Constable B. Suresh, attached to Tappachabutra police station, was on Blue Colt-I patrolling duty in the area when he noticed the commotion and rushed to the spot. On finding the worker unresponsive and not breathing, the constable immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The police said the constable performed continuous chest compressions, following which the victim’s pulse was revived and temporary breathing was restored at the spot. With the help of local residents, the injured worker was then shifted to a hospital in an emergency vehicle for further treatment.

Doctors treating the worker said his condition was stable and that he was out of danger. According to the police, doctors stated that the immediate administration of CPR within the golden hour played a key role in saving his life.

Tappachabutra SHO G. Balakrishna commended the constable for his swift response and presence of mind in handling the emergency situation.
