Petrol, diesel prices hiked third time in eight days; latest by about 90 paise

Centre publishes draft rules for VB-G RAM G, invites feedback
The Centre on Saturday (May 23, 2026) published draft rules under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 (VB–G RAM G) for public consultation, following the notification of the law’s implementation across all States and Union Territories from July 1.
Framed under Section 33 and other relevant provisions of the Act, the draft rules have been placed in the public domain to facilitate wider stakeholder consultation before they are finalised.

All immigrants in the U.S., including Indians, looking to obtain a Green Card will now have to return to their home countries to apply, according to a new policy announced by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). “U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced a new policy memo reiterating the fact that, consistent with long-standing immigration law and immigration court decisions, aliens seeking adjustment of status must do so through consular processing via the Department of State outside of the country,” the USCIS said in a release dated May 22, 2026.
Raghav Chadha appointed chairman of Rajya Sabha Committee on Petitions
Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who switched from the AAP to the BJP recently, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Committee on Petitions of the Upper House. After reconstituting the Committee on Petitions, Rajya Sabha chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan nominated 10 members of the house to the panel. “Raghav Chadha has been appointed Chairman of the Committee,” a Rajya Sabha notification said. The panel has been reconstituted by the Rajya Sabha chairman with effect from May 20, it said.

Coal mine gas explosion in China kills 90; more than 200 rescued
Ninety miners were killed in a gas explosion in a coal mine in north China, official media in Beijing reported on Saturday (May 23, 2026), adding that 201 miners have so far been rescued.
