The Kasimkota police on Saturday (June 27, 2026) arrested an auto-rickshaw driver P. Lokesh for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and causing an accident that left around 10 schoolchildren injured in Anakapalli district on June 25.
The police said that Lokesh was ferrying students from a private school to Vissanapeta. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and was driving the vehicle at high speed in a rash and negligent manner when he lost control, resulting in the accident at Bayyavaram Junction. The accused driver was produced before the 12th Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Anakapalli and remanded to judicial custody.
