An unknown man was found murdered on the bund of Achankulam tank near Neelambur in Coimbatore district on Monday, prompting the police to launch an investigation to identify the deceased and the assailants.
A fisherman who went to Achankulam for fishing around 8 a.m. on Monday spotted the body on the tank bund. The deceased was bereft of clothes and had injuries on his face. The man immediately alerted the Neelambur police.
The police went to the spot and secured the crime scene. Fingerprint experts, scientific team, and dog squad were brought to the crime scene for detailed examination and collection of clues. The body was later shifted to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital for post-mortem examination.
According to the police, the fisherman had gone to the tank bund for fishing around 9 p.m. on Sunday. He noticed three unknown persons passing through mud road along tank bund on a two-wheeler, following which he heard shouting and screams from the same direction.
Though the fisherman and his friend combed the area later due to suspicion of a fight, they could not find anyone. The fisherman spotted the body on Monday morning, when he returned to the spot, the police said.
The police added that further investigation was on to ascertain the identity of the deceased, to trace the persons involved in the murder and establish their motive.
