Efforts are underway to ensure a reliable supply of drinking water to residents of Sangareddy town, with proposals worth ₹200 crore being prepared to augment the Manjeera water scheme.
The proposals were discussed at a review meeting attended by former MLA T. Jagga Reddy and officials from the Municipal Administration, Public Health, and Mission Bhagiratha departments, on Sunday. The meeting focused on strengthening the existing infrastructure and addressing gaps in the current supply system.
Recalling the situation prior to his tenure as MLA, Mr. Jagga Reddy said residents once depended on collecting water from pits dug six feet below the ground. “People wanted water supply at ground level without having to dig pits. I ensured the Manjeera water scheme was implemented at an investment of ₹230 crore during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy,” he said.
Mr. Jagga Reddy said that despite the introduction of Mission Bhagiratha in 2014, the Manjeera scheme in Sangareddy had deteriorated over the past decade.
According to officials, the new proposal includes works worth ₹175 crore within the town and an additional ₹25 crore for constructing a new intake well at the Manjeera dam. Plans include building eight additional storage tanks over the existing 12, laying 50 km of new distribution pipelines, and constructing a new filter bed at ₹10 crore.
The proposals are expected to be finalised ahead of the Chief Minister’s proposed visit to Sangareddy. The works are likely to begin in 2027 and completed by 2028.
