Madurai City Police on Wednesday seized 331.500 kg of banned tobacco products that were being smuggled in an Andhra Pradesh registered car in Villapuram.
The Avaniyapuram police have arrested the driver, Bharath Vaishnav, 35, of Bengaluru.
The police said that during a vehicle check on Aruppukottai Main Road in Villapuram, a police team had intercepted the car. The police found that 26 bags of two different banned tobacco products were being steathily brought in to Madurai.
The driver had told police that his elder brother, Kishan Vaishnav had instructed him to deliver the contraband to one Mahaveer Jain.
The car was also seized and the accused was sent to judicial custody.
