Members of various political parties and organisations paid floral tributes to those who lost their lives in the anti-Sterlite protest police firing, marking the 8th anniversary on Friday.
The protest against the Sterlite Copper plant inThoothukudi ended with a tragic police firing held on May 22, 2018. This has led to the death of 13 people and injuries to many.
A tribute meeting was held at CPI(M) office in Masilamanipuram, where district secretary K.P. Arumugam led party members in paying floral tributes.
DMK organised a memorial event at the party’s north district office in Thoothukudi. Party members led by north district secretary P. Geetha Jeevan paid homage and offered flowers to the photographs of those killed in police firing .

In view of the anniversary, police have made elaborate security arrangements across the district.
