The Delhi police have arrested two persons on Monday, nearly two months after a decomposed body was found stuffed inside mattresses and blankets and dumped in a plastic sack outside a factory in west Delhi.
According to the police, the body was discovered on April 4 after a PCR call reported a suspicious sack near the gate of a factory at Prem Nagar Fatak. Officers found the decomposed body of a man, believed to be 40-42 years old, wrapped in two mattresses and blankets, with his legs tied using a mobile phone charger cable. A post-mortem examination later established that he died from manual strangulation coupled with a blunt-force head injury, confirming that it was a case of homicide.
Investigators initially struggled to identify the victim. However, a tattoo reading “Amit-Kiran” on his arm became a crucial lead.
Police analysed footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras, circulated over 200 notices across Delhi-NCR and traced a suspected e-cart used to transport the body.
The investigation led officers to a rented house in Indrapuri in Loni, Ghaziabad, where forensic teams recovered blood-stained evidence. The deceased was subsequently identified as Amit Kumar. Police found that the house had been rented by Amit‘s younger brother, Gopal, and his wife, Soma alias Seema, who had vacated the premises and gone into hiding immediately after the incident.
Following searches across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, the couple was arrested near Rama Road on June 15.
“During questioning, we found that longstanding disputes had developed between the deceased and the accused couple. Preliminary investigation suggests Amit’s alleged objectionable behaviour towards Soma and frequent quarrels within the family may have triggered the murder,” said Hareshwar Swami, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
Police said further investigation into the exact sequence of events and the motive is under way.
