Police arrested 98 criminals including 41 hardcore offenders in Tirunelveli City and 57 others in Tirunelveli district on Wednesday under the ‘Operation Shieldnet’, which was launched in the South Zone on instructions from Inspector General of Police, South Zone, Vijayendra Bidari.
The Tirunelveli City Police arrested 41 criminals including 37 history-sheeters and 4 other troublemakers who have been accused of selling banned narcotic substances and indulging in unlawful activities and heinous crimes.
As the Tirunelveli City Police launched ‘Operation Shieldnet’, the intensive preventive policing drive launched on Wednesday (May 20), the criminals were nabbed and remanded in judicial custody. Warrants have been pending against a few of them.
“This drive will continue until the last troublemaker in Tirunelveli city is nabbed,” said Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Shekhar Deshmukh.
In Tirunelveli district, 57 history-sheeters were taken into custody on Wednesday under this special drive, Superintendent of Police V. Prassannakumar said.
“Based on the police records and their involvement in criminal cases, the criminals were identified and arrested during Operation Shieldnet’, which will continue in the days to come,” Dr. Prassannakumar said.
