With monsoon under way, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has recommended that the Telangana government release ₹20.6 crore to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to enable it to carry out emergency operations and other mandated responsibilities during the season.

The proposal was among a host of decisions taken during the fifth ordinary meeting of the Standing Committee and the Corporation held on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by MA&UD Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and was attended by CMC Commissioner G. Srijana along with other senior officials. A common decision on the HYDRAA funding proposal is expected to be taken jointly by the three municipal corporations.

The civic body also approved several drainage and infrastructure projects aimed at improving stormwater management. Administrative sanction was accorded for a ₹3 crore project to construct a drain from Meenakshi Skyla to Mudi Kunta Lake in Ward No. 233, Izzathnagar, under Madhapur Circle. Another proposal involving the construction of a stormwater drain from Mundi Kunta outlet to Sravayalaya Apartment Road in the same ward, estimated at ₹5.5 crore, was recommended by the committee and later received administrative sanction from the Corporation.

Sports infrastructure emerged as another major focus area. The committee approved the development of multi-sports infrastructure at five locations in Serilingampally zone through corporate social responsibility (CSR), public private partnership (PPP) or other suitable models. The Zonal Commissioner of Serilingampally was authorised to take further steps and evolve an operation and maintenance framework for the facilities.

The corporation also approved the development of a ₹4-crore sports arena beneath the PJR Flyover in Anjaiah Nagar, Madhapur. In Quthbullapur zone, projects worth nearly ₹15 crore were cleared at the Jyothirao Phule Municipal Ground in Bahadurpally. These include a ₹4.83 crore project for construction of a compound wall and renovation of the office building, a ₹4.62 crore sports arena comprising a skating rink, tennis court, pickleball court and box cricket facilities, and a ₹5.44 crore theme park.

The Standing Committee approved the establishment of ‘Project Ashray – Rest and Wellness Hubs for Gig and Delivery Workers’ under Amazon’s CSR initiative.

Among other engineering works, administrative sanction was granted for the development of the Madhapur graveyard in Harijan Basti, Ward No. 232, at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore. The project includes a cremation unit, pooja mandap, kerb walls, seating galleries, a Lord Shiva statue, ash storage and wood storage rooms, toilet blocks and a rainwater harvesting pit.

A proposal estimated at ₹9.99 crore for implementation of a city-wide awareness campaign, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, behaviour change communication, capacity building, strengthening of solid waste management systems and Swachh Survekshan support for a period of 12 months was also approved.
