Kanakapura celebrates D.K. Shivakumar with festive fervour
Against the backdrop of the hills surrounding Kanakapura in Bengaluru South district, tethered balloons bearing the faces of State Congress leaders soared in the sky, welcoming visitors with congratulatory messages for D.K. Shivakumar.
A festive atmosphere gripped Kanakapura and the nearby villages as their local man, Mr. Shivakumar, popularly known as ‘Kanakapurada Bande’, was sworn in as Chief Minister.

D.K. Shivakumar's first media briefing as CM: What were the major announcements?
In his maiden press conference after Cabinet meeting, newly-sworn in Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced free bus passes for all students across Karnataka.
Mr. Shivakumar also announced his intent to create at least 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuvaka Sanghas across the State aimed at enouraging sports, cultural talent, social harmony, leadership qualities among the youth. The Sanghas will get a fund of ₹10 lakh each from the government.
He also declared an additional ₹2,000 crore for repair of Bengaluru roads which will cover GBA and BDA areas. Poor condition of roads had drawn flak from citizens following heavy rains in the city.
He said that B-Khata to A-Khata conversions which had earlier been rolled out for residents within GBA limits will now be extended to all of Karnataka. For existing buildings on 2,500 sqft plots, violations upto 20% will be regularised under a one-time scheme.
The CM added that the Karnataka government will set up private employment exchange where people can enrol for jobs.

Retired IAS offier L.K. Atheeq has been appointed Financial Advisor to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar with immediate effect. He will continue to hold concurrent charge as chairman, Bengaluru Business Corridor.
Senior IAS officer Tushar Giri Nath has been appointed as Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister with immediate effect, replacing IAS Anjum Parwez.
IAS officer P. Rajendra Cholan has been appointed as Secretary to the Chief Minister. He was serving as Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister. Rajendra Cholan will also hold additional charge as Managing Director of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited, relieving IAS officer Gaurav Gupta.

Siddaramaiah’s imprint on first batch of ministers sworn in with D.K. Shivakumar
Former chief minister Siddaramaiah has left his imprint on the Karnataka Cabinet headed by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Except for U.T. Khader and Yathindra Siddaramaiah, all legislators sworn in as ministers on June 3 had served in Congress governments led by Mr. Siddaramaiah. Notably, no woman legislator has been inducted into the Cabinet.
Notable persons missing in the first batch of ministers sworn in on June 3 are H.C. Mahadevappa, H.K. Patil, Santosh Lad, Dinesh Gundu Rao, and B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, who served in the previous Cabinet.

D.K. Shivakumar assumes office as Karnataka CM in the name of late seer Gangadhar Ajjayya
Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar took oath as the chief minister of Karnataka in the name of the late seer Gangadhara Ajjayya while holding a copy of the Constitution. He also offered floral tributes to the seer on stage before taking oath.
Mr. Shivakumar was sworn in at Lok Bhavan by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at 4.15 p.m. on Wednesday.
In sharp contrast, G. Parameshwara (former Home Minister) took oath as Deputy Chief Minister in the name of B.R. Ambedkar. He was followed by K.H. Muniyappa (former Food and Supplies Minister) and K.J. George (former Energy Minister) who took oath of office in the name of God.
M.B. Patil (former Large and Medium Industries Minister) took oath in the name of Vishwaguru Basavanna and other Sharanas, as well as Siddheshwar Swamiji.
Soon after, following an instruction from the Governor to the Ministers to stick to the text provided to them, former transport minister Ramalinga Reddy, former PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, former Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and former IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, took oath “sincerely”.
The streak was soon broken by former Speaker U.T. Khader who took oath in the name of God, followed by former Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre who took oath in the name of God and Lingayat seer Lingaikya Channabasava Pattadevaru.
While Yathindra Siddaramaiah, newly-inducted Cabinet minster, took oath in the name of the Constitution, the ceremony ended with former Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh and former Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil taking oath in the name of God.

Sonia Gandhi greets Shivakumar over phone
Karnataka Chief Minister-designate D.K. Shivakumar said top Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wished him over the phone, as he prepares to take over as chief minister.
Shivakumar said he has assured Gandhi that he will take everyone along.
“Sonia Gandhi spoke to me over the phone. She has a lot of trust in me since the beginning. She made me the party president (in the state). She wished me, and asked me to take everyone together. She has belief in me. I have assured that I will take everyone together,” Shivakumar told reporters here.
A day before taking oath, Mr. Shivakumar expressed his gratitude to the Gandhi family for helping shape his political journey and thanked Congress leaders and MPs Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi for placing their faith in him during his stint in the Congress.

With the aim to ensure that even people in remote corners of the State can witness the momentous occasion unfold in real time, the Department of Information and Public Relations has made arrangements to live stream the event on the digital display boards installed at government-run bus stands in the State, a press statement said.

D.K. Shivakumar's hometown awash with joy and banners, villagers arrive in droves to Bengaluru for the swearing-in event
Ahead of D.K. Shivakumar’s swearing-in as Chief Minister of Karnataka, Kanakapura was seen drowning in flexes and banners. With orders overflowing, flex shop owners seemed to be making a bounty.
Floating helium balloons with Mr. Shivakumar’s face dotted the skyscape of Kanakapura as far as the eye could see.
For the oath-taking ceremony, around 200 people from the Doddalahalli, Kodihalli and other villages in Kanakapura, his home turf and constituency, are heading to Bengaluru in three buses. Several others are also going to the city in their own vehicles, so close to 400 people are on their way, villagers tell The Hindu.
“We have been asked not to go to Bengaluru but such is our respect and admiration for our leader. He is our bande (rock). We are elated that he has been elevated to the post of CM. We want to celebrate this moment with him,” said a supporter.
“We will travel from here to Thalaghattapura in the buses we have arranged. From there, we will take a metro to Vidhana Soudha. We have taken metro passes for all the villagers who are travelling with us. We will be happy just to get a glimpse of him from afar and watch him take oath,” the supporter said.

13 Cabinet Minister to take oath alongside D.K. Shivakumar
Hours before the swearing in ceremony of D.K.Shivakumar as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the Congress released a list of 13 cabinet ministers who will be sworn in on June 3, 2026. Setting rest to speculation, the Congress has decided to appoint G. Parameshwara as the the Deputy Chief Minister.
While Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah makes his debut in the Cabinet, others to be sworn in include U.T. Khader, M.B. Patil, K.J. George, K.H. Muniyappa, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy, Krishna Byregowda ), Priyank Kharge, Ishwar Khandre, Byrathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil.

List of Ministers to be sworn in with DKS to be finalised only June 3
The much-awaited list of names of leaders to be inducted into the Cabinet, along with D.K. Shivakumar, who will be sworn in on Wednesday evening, is likely to be announced by the Congress central leadership only on Wednesday morning.
Multiple sources indicated that there could be between 10 and 15 Ministers who will be sworn in along with the Chief Minister, though agreement had not been arrived at till late on Tuesday.

B.K. Hariprasad likely to become KPCC president
Veteran Congress leader and MLC B.K. Hariprasad, 72, is likely to be appointed the next president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

Elaborate security and traffic management arrangements have been put in place for the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday (June 3), with the Bengaluru City Police working in close coordination with the traffic police to ensure smooth conduct of the event and maintain law and order.

Major traffic curbs in Bengaluru for Karnataka CM’s swearing-in ceremony
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions across the Central Business District (CBD) on June 3 in view of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, which is scheduled to be held at 4 p.m. at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan.
According to the traffic police, vehicle movement will be prohibited on several key roads between 12 noon and 8 p.m., including stretches of Cubbon Road, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Road, Race Course Road, Queens Road, and roads leading towards Lok Bhavan. Heavy congestion is anticipated in and around the CBD area due to the event, and public gatherings.
