Erode district registered an overall pass percentage of 98.87 in the Class 12 public examinations, the results of which were declared on Friday (May 8), securing first place in the State. This is the third time the district has secured the top rank in the State, the earlier occasions being in 2014 and 2016.

Of the 22,478 students from 221 schools who appeared for the examinations held in March 2026, as many as 22,225 passed. Girls achieved a pass percentage of 99.27 and boys, 98.42. As many as 128 schools produced centum results, including 47 government schools. Among government schools, Erode ranked first with an overall pass percentage of 98.24.

Chief Educational Officer E. Manvizhi told The Hindu that the district had last secured the State top rank in 2016 and stood second in 2025. Explaining the measures that helped the district achieve the milestone, she said headmasters, headmistresses and teachers were instructed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of students. A roadmap was then prepared and implemented with the cooperation of teachers and students.

Study materials were prepared and distributed to students to help them clear the examinations, besides special coaching classes were conducted by teachers. Referring to the improvement in results in the hill areas, she said several schools in the Thalavadi Hills were Kannada-medium government schools, and teachers from the plains were deputed to handle classes twice a week. She added that the collective efforts of teachers and students helped the district achieve the feat.
