The Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police has registered a case and launched an investigation into the leak of the Tamil film Jana Nayagan, starring actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay.

The police action comes after a complaint by R. Udayakumar, production controller of KVN Productions, who sought immediate intervention against the illegal leak, unlawful downloading, transmission, and circulation of the film, which is yet to be released in theatres. He also sought the urgent blocking of the content on social media, preservation of digital evidence, and criminal action against those involved.

The production company said it had invested substantial financial resources, creative effort, and contractual commitments in the film, which is one of the most anticipated high-value productions scheduled for release this year.

Jana Nayagan features Mr. Vijay, Prakash Raj, and other prominent artistes from the south Indian film industry. Given the scale of production, star cast, and public anticipation, the film carries significant commercial value, with investments running into several crores of rupees.

Listing 21 persons in the complaint, the production firm said certain scenes from the unreleased film had been unlawfully accessed, downloaded, copied, and circulated by those named. It added that any further circulation or upload of the leaked scenes on digital platforms would cause irreparable loss to the producer.

The complainant urged the police to seize all digital devices used by the accused, including mobile phones, laptops, storage devices, and cloud accounts; trace all recipients of the leaked footage; and issue immediate blocking directions to social media platforms and hosting intermediaries to prevent further circulation of the content.
