Be it 2011 or 2021, the Coimbatore district, which has 10 Assembly constituencies, elected AIADMK candidates as MLAs and was dubbed the stronghold of the party in the State.

However, the 2026 election has changed the scenario. The AIADMK won just one seat in the district – Thondamuthur. The party’s candidates could only secure third position in Coimbatore North, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Valparai, Kinathukadavu, and Mettupalayam in the recently concluded elections.
