A middle-aged tribesperson was allegedly trampled to death by a wild elephant inside the forest near Edamalayar in Kothamangalam on Sunday. The deceased is Pushpakaran Vellakkayyan, a resident of the Ponginchuvadu tribal settlement in Edamalayar.
Pushpakaran was attacked by the tusker reportedly when he went to collect non-timber forest products in the evening. He was part of a four-member group. He is survived by wife and two children. The Kuruppampady police said a team was sent to the site upon receiving an intimation about the incident.
