The Hindu The second phase of West Bengal Elections
2026-04-30 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

After the completion of the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly election, the second phase was held on April 30 with polling across 142 constituencies. Long queues of voters were seen outside polling stations from the early morning, as voters turned up in large numbers to cast their vote amid rain. The election officials and security personnel were seen patrolling to maintain peace.

Unlike previous years, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came out in the morning itself to meet voters. On the other hand, when BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari visited the polling areas, he was reportedly met with an attack and was heckled by supporters of the ruling party.

Several incidents of violence and clashes were also reported from different areas of west bengal which led to heightened security by the authorities. Despite the tensions, polling continued under the watchful eye of the special forces, with special arrangements for senior citizens and persons with disabilities ensuring full participation and good voter turnout.
