The Coimbatore City Police have kept two teams ready for the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), one of the three priority schemes announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay after assuming the office on May 10.
Police sources said that two teams have been chosen and kept on standby to take charge as ANTF squads, soon after its official launch.

An ANTF team comprises a Sub-Inspector and five police personnel. Each team will have a separate vehicle.
Sources said that the teams were kept ready as the State-wide launch of the scheme was expected soon. Of the two teams, one will cover Coimbatore South jurisdictions and the second team will operate within Coimbatore North jurisdictions of the commissionerate.
The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police will have one ANTF team with the same strength of personnel and vehicle as in the city. The district police have identified personnels with experience in anti-narcotic operations for the team and they have been instructed to function as the ANTF team immediately after the launch.
