A 50-year-old man was killed after being struck by lightning at Koombara in Kozhikode district on Sunday. The victim was identified as Jaison Ilampulliyil. He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a private medical college hospital in Mukkam.

According to police sources, the man was working at his poultry farm at the time of the accident. A woman from the village also sustained grave injuries in lightning. Revenue department sources said the upland area witnessed a heavy summer downpour and lightning in the evening. Advisories had already been issued to the public to stay alert, they said.
