The under-ground drainage (UGD) works in Nellore will be completed over the next six months and the city will be free from mosquitoes, said Municipal and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana.
“The UGD works, which had been undertaken by the TDP government with a cost of ₹550 crore, were stopped by the YSRCP government. Now, the coalition government has started them again with additional ₹70 crore.”
Mr. Narayana said that the government is providing each drainage connection for just one rupee, and with the cooperation of the people, Nellore will be transformed into a beautiful city free from mosquitoes. He allocated ₹10 crore for the modernisation of the drains in Kapatipalem, 51st Division of the city.
The Minister further said that the development works within the municipal corporation limits are going on at a fast pace and promised that fresh water will be provided to every household from Sangam Barrage through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme by July.
