Cautioning Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh of “undoubtedly viewing seriously any iteration of a similar act,” the High Court of Karnataka has quashed the FIR registered against him for his “reckless” act of “mocking” the sacred daiva tradition depicted in the film Kantara Chapter-1.
Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the order while accepting Mr. Singh’s written apology, in which the actor had stated, “I apologise for unintentionally and inadvertently having offended the sentiments of all communities who worship the deity Chavundi daiva. I have the deepest respect and regard for the Hindu religion in all its manifestations and also for all religions and communities around the world, including within the Karnataka State.”
