The BJP recorded its first victory in The Nilgiris, winning the Ooty constituency after narrowly defeating the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam by a narrow margin of less than 1,000 votes.
Throughout the day, the BJP’s M. Bhojarajan, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s R. Ibrahim and the Indian National Congress’ B. Ramachandran were locked in a tight battle, with the three candidates separated by less than 3,000 votes after the final round of counting. As per the Election Commission of India, Mr. Bhojarajan won by a margin of 976 votes, polling a total of 48,488 votes. The INC’s Ramachandran finished in third place with 45,658 votes.
