Kollam district steps up preparations for Census 2027
2026-05-17 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The district administration has accelerated its preparations for the upcoming Census 2027 by appointing four master trainers and 87 field trainers to oversee the data collection process.

The field trainers have been selected from higher secondary school teachers and officials across various government departments. After receiving specialised instruction from the master trainers, these field trainers will go on to train the supervisors and enumerators who will be working directly on the ground. To facilitate this, a three-day training programme organised in various batches will be held for the field trainers at the Collectorate from May 18 to 23. Meanwhile, under the leadership of designated charge officers, the formal appointment procedures for supervisors and enumerators are currently under way. The training window for these newly appointed supervisors and enumerators has been scheduled to take place from May 28 to June 23.

Digital facilities

This edition of the nationwide census will feature modern digital facilities, including a self-enumeration system that allows citizens to log their own details. From June 16 to June 30, individuals can visit the official portal at https://se.census.gov.in/ to enter their information independently. The portal will display 34 specific questions in the user’s preferred language, though the language cannot be changed once selected.

Upon successfully submitting their answers online, residents will receive a unique self-enumeration ID via SMS or email. Enumerators will later use this specific ID to verify the submitted details before officially uploading them into the dedicated Census app. The District Collector, who is leading the operations, said that the first phase of the door-to-door data collection will take place from July 1 to July 30, for which comprehensive house-listing blocks are currently being formulated.
