The Karnataka government has finally appointed retired Karnataka High Court judge Ramachandra D. Huddar as chairperson for the Admission Overseeing Committee (AOC) for professional courses.
Judge B. Manohar’s term as AOC chairperson had ended in October 2024.
According to the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act, 2006, two committees oversee regulation of admission and determination of fees in professional educational institutions in the State. One is the AOC that monitors admissions to professional courses, and the other is the Fee Regulatory Committee. Both committees are single-member entities comprising retired High Court judges.
For the past two years, due to the absence of a chairperson for the AOC, the Fee Regulatory Committee has been resolving other issues of students, including fees.
