To ensure that all students who passed the Class XII public examination in Coimbatore district pursue higher education, the district administration has appointed 114 senior government officials as higher education enrolment monitoring officers for 114 government higher secondary schools.
According to District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, 11,182 students from government schools in the district appeared for the Class XII public examination in the 2025-26 academic year. Of them, 10,409 students cleared the examination.
The monitoring officers will visit the schools assigned to them, meet headmasters and identify students who may face difficulties in pursuing higher education. The focus will be on children with disabilities, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students, children without parents, and those with only one surviving parent.
Officials said the officers would meet the students and their parents, provide counselling and guidance on higher education opportunities, admissions and available support systems in person.
The district’s higher education enrolment rate has shown a steady increase in recent years. Officials said the enrolment rate rose from 83.89% in 2022-23 to 93.25% in 2023-24 and further to 98.4% in 2024-25.
