After missing multiple deadlines, M. Maheswar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), has now directed the contractor of the infamous Ejipura Flyover to deploy additional staff to complete the work within the stipulated deadline.

The deadline, as per the previous revision, is October. As the project resumed after a lull of nearly six years, officials have missed at least four deadlines.

On Thursday, Mr. Rao held a review meeting with officials and contractors and directed that all necessary measures be taken to ensure completion of the flyover within the stipulated timeline.

Mr. Rao directed that the Bescom unit located at the Madiwala-side ramp construction site be relocated within two days and that three trees opposite Kendriya Sadan be removed within four days to facilitate the commencement of ramp construction work without delay.

“The down-ramp work on the Domlur side has reached 70% completion. Deploy additional manpower and complete the remaining down-ramp work within 15 days,” he directed officials. Following this, the Sarjapur-side down-ramp construction should be taken up and completed within the next 15 days, he noted.

The launching of four spans near the Ejipura Signal junction commenced on May 20 and is expected to be completed within two months. He further instructed the contractor to expedite the construction of five portal frames and complete the main flyover project by the end of October.

Project progress

The Ejipura Flyover is being constructed over a length of 2.59 kilometres. Out of a total of 762 segments, 731 have already been cast. The remaining casting work is expected to be completed by the end of June. Of the 66 spans planned for the project, 52 have been completed, while installation of the remaining 14 spans is currently in progress, according to the GBA.

For uniform footpaths and road widening at grade level, land acquisition and transfer proceedings covering a total extent of 5,998.6 square metres of private and government land are being processed by the Land Acquisition Department and other concerned departments.

Clear potholes

Mr. Rao directed officials to ensure that there are no potholes on roads adjoining the flyover construction zone. “As the monsoon season is approaching, both side drains should be thoroughly desilted to facilitate the smooth flow of rainwater. Preventive measures must also be taken to avoid waterlogging in any section of the flyover construction area during the rainy season,” he said.
